A Magical Introduction to Classical Ballet

Step into a world of imagination, music, movement, and storytelling with The Nutcracker, one of the world’s most beloved classical ballets. This beautifully abridged 50-minute production of Act II introduces students to the artistry and traditions of classical ballet while bringing Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable music to life on stage.

Follow Clara as her magical Christmas dream carries her into the enchanting Land of Sweets, where she encounters the Sugar Plum Fairy and a spectacular collection of dancers representing different cultures and traditions. Through graceful choreography, colorful costumes, expressive movement, and Tchaikovsky’s captivating score, students experience how dancers, musicians, designers, and choreographers work together to tell a story without relying solely on words.

The Nutcracker provides students with an engaging introduction to the elements of dance, music, theater, and visual arts. As they watch the dancers communicate emotions and ideas through movement, students can explore concepts such as rhythm, patterns, musical expression, character, setting, storytelling, and cultural traditions. The production also encourages students to use their imagination, make connections between music and movement, and appreciate the discipline and creativity required to perform classical ballet.

The dances of the Land of Sweets offer an opportunity to explore different cultures and musical traditions, encouraging students to recognize and appreciate the ways people around the world express themselves through dance and music.

This enchanting production makes the beauty of classical ballet accessible to young audiences without traveling into Manhattan. The Nutcracker is an exciting live arts experience that inspires curiosity, creativity, cultural awareness, and an appreciation for the performing arts.
